What our guests say
Dear friends from Borneo Trails,
My name is Nina Melero, and I am one of your customers. I took the private tour (night tour + dinner + performance) last Saturday, 7th December.
I am writing to give you my feedback.
I think it is important to let you know that you are very lucky to have guides like Walter in your team.
I was very impressed by his work. I live in Singapore since 2014, and I have travelled around the region since then, for work and for holidays, taking many tours with different companies in Southeast Asia. I must say that in all my trips during that period I NEVER had a guide as professional, friendly and knowledgeable as Walter.
I learnt more about Malaysia in the evening talking with him, than I have up to now in all my visits to your country put together. He explained the history of the city, the architecture, the dances, the traditions, the food: everything presented to me with passion and knowledge, coloured with anecdotes, personal views 9and wisdom, I might add). Walter is no doubt a top-class guide, answering all questions with kindness and patience. He was well prepared, sensitive to my interests, and great company. And, on top of that… He could ALSO satisfy my curiosity about the different species of birds that we saw! Historian and birder, multilingual, a real traveller himself. It was a luxury to have such a guide all to myself!
Your company is very, very lucky to have someone like Walter in your staff. Really.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend your tours to other friends visiting KK, and I might actually come back myself. My trip was fantastic, and I was very glad that I chose your company for my tour.
Again – please say thank you to Walter on my behalf.
I had my Kota Kinabalu vacation in October and Humprey was my driver for my Sapi island trip. Although the only time we met was on the car to and from but he was very friendly. He tells us about what food is nice, share with us the cultural in Sabah and recommended us to Mari Mari culutral village if we are keen to understand more.
Once again, thank you Humprey for being so hospitable. Hope to see you again if we are back in Sabah.
Thank you so much!
"Mr. Jame Deserved the highest appreciation due to his extraordinary professionalism, knowledge, readiness to help and kindness. The driver was perfect too. Big thanks to Lotus Asia Tours!!!"
The long 6.5 hours winding & imperfect road condition from KK are worth of hassles to visit the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. They are so cute and pleasant to watch. Shame we couldn’t see the indoor nursery. Highly recommend if you can. There are places to visit along the way namely Kundasang. You’ll be blown away with the numbers of various fruits that are not available in your local supermarkets.
Recently we stayed at the Shangri-La's Rasa Ria Resort in Kota Kinabalu and organised a tour to Sandakan with your agent at the resort . This was an excellent tour which was organised with professionalism from the agent , and I would like to make special note of Jame , who was our guide in Sandakan, as he did an EXCELLENT job for us .Thank you
Best way to see Borneo!!
We travelled with Borneo Trails after booking it through travel agent in Australia. Our itinerary was fantastic and took us to all the places we had wanted to see. Everything ran like clockwork and we were always on time and never rushed. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and well situated. The guides were informative and happy to answer questions and go out of their way to help us see things. When I mentioned that I had hoped to see a flowering Rafflesia plant our guide found out where we could see one and took us there even though it wasn't on the itinerary. I was really appreciative. We saw a lot of animals during our time at the Kinabatangan River and we got to visit two war memorials which were very poignant and wonderful to visit. I would throughly recommended travelling with these guys if you want to do a thorough trip of Borneo. The accommodation as mentioned was great, the restaurants they took us to were all lovely and we got to enjoy a lot of local dishes. My only disappointment with the whole tour was that our coach has extremely squeaky suspension which made it hard to hear the commentary if you were sitting at the back of the bus. Do yourselves a favour and book with Borneo Trails.
A special thank you to Jamie our tour guide in Borneo for his great knowledge and friendliness. He guided us at for 3 days starting at Sepilok Orangutan Centre to the Bilt river lodge and back to Sandakan.

Trip A Deal associated tour
We booked our 11 day Unbelievable Borneo tour with Trip A Deal in Australia. They use Borneo Trails to conduct the tour. We have nothing but praise for them. We were a group of 20. Our guide was Belle and she was fantastic! Our driver was Jay, also fabulous! They were always efficient, very knowledgeable, so caring and helpful.
They ensured we had the best experience at every stop.
We highly recommend this company and in particular Belle and Jay!! My husband can’t wait to return to climb Mount Kinabalu with Belle.
Local partners for KK trip
We booked Kota Kinabalu trip through one of biggest travel agents in India and Borneo Trails were the local partners who arranged our trip. So right from pick-up and drop to the airport to other tours were organized through them.
Their Vehicles were good and clean. Pick from airport to hotel on first day and from hotel to airport on last day was on time with friendly drivers.
A special mention for Private city tour with Guide Walter, trainee guide Sara and driver (I think his name was Jackson)
The Klias fireflies tour was excellent. As we were vegetarians, a special request was already made ahead of our arrival and we got some good vegetarian food.
All in all we would surely recommend this travel company to all our friends and family.
I booked a 3 day / 2 night Mt. Kinabalu hiking package with Borneo Trails Tours & Travel as they had a competitive price (not the lowest) and because almost all of the reviews I read about them were positive. I am very happy I chose them. My tour started off with a pickup from my hotel at noon on Day 1. I chose a noon pickup primarily because of my late arrival (after 11 p.m.) to the hotel the night before. I was the only passenger in the transport bus (about an 8 seater). The driver was courteous and friendly, explaining beforehand the upcoming drive and where I would be going. Our first stop, after about a 2 hour drive from Kota Kinabalu through the adjacent hills and mountains, was Mt. Kinabalu Nat'l Park headquarters to register for the following day. There I met the tour rep. Dora, who was very friendly and outgoing. We finished up with all the requirements in about 15 minutes. Then the transport driver took me to the Poring Hot Springs resort, about 30 minutes drive. I arrived to the resort at about 3 p.m. Check-in was fairly quick. The reception was able to pre-arrange my luggage storage for the next day at the Nat'l Park headquarters for fee of 12 RM. Most of the facilities (including pools) at the resort close at 4 p.m. So, I should have taken the earlier transport from KK in order to give a bit more time. Both dinner that night and breakfast for Day 2 were provided at the Rainforest Restaurant at the resort. Both meals were tasty and quite satisfying. On Day 2, a different van picked me and 6 others up at 7:30 a.m. and delivered us to the National Park HQ by 8:45 a.m. There I met Dora again and she provided me with my Park / Hiking ID and bag lunch. There I also me my hike guide. He turned out to be outstanding. Provided me with sound advice and motivation throughout the hike. He also offered to carry my pack up and down the trail for a nominal fee. We departed the Timpohon Gate at 9 a.m. and arrived to Laban Rata rest house at 3 p.m. I found everything about the rest house to be pretty good (food, beds, guests, etc.) I was able to have dinner and managed to get 6 hrs. sleep in time for the 1:30 a.m. wakeup on Day 3. Luckily the weather cooperated and was able to make the 3 hr. hike to the summit. Made the 2 hr. return hike to Laban Rata where I had breakfast and relaxed for an hour. My guide and I departed about 9:30 a.m. for the 6KM hike back down. The rain arrived when we were at 4KM, I was officially soaked through by about 3.5KM. Then we walked down the trail, disguised as a river, back to Timpohon Gate. In all, everything provided by Borneo was per the arranged itinerary and to my satisfaction. I had a memorable experience thanks to their planning and service and I am very grateful. I would strongly recommend this tour and tour company to anyone.
