Located just 2KM from the city centre on about 24 hectares (60 acres) of mangrove wetlands, the Sanctuary is an environmental education centre, providing urban recreation, nature appreciation and eco-tourism for both locals and overseas visitors. About 80 species have been identified at the Sanctuary. Bird watching is best at dawn when the birds prepare to search for food or at dusk when they come back to roost for the night.
