Embark on a 2-day cultural and scenic journey to Kudat, the northernmost region of Borneo, where traditions come alive and stunning landscapes await.
Begin your journey with a 3-hour drive from Kota Kinabalu through the picturesque countryside, passing paddy fields, villages, and plantations. Along the way, visit Sumangkap Village, renowned for its traditional gong-making, and stop by Gombizau Bee Farm, where you can observe beekeeping and taste fresh honey straight from the honeycomb. Continue to Bavanggazo Village, home of the Rungus people, a sub-tribe of the indigenous kadazandusun and check in at a traditional longhouse, built entirely from local materials. After a hearty lunch, immerse yourself in Rungus culture with a captivating cultural performance and, for those interested, a chance to join a "tapai" (rice wine) session with your hosts. End the night with a cozy stay in the longhouse, experiencing the authentic lifestyle of the Rungus community.
The next day, after breakfast, travel to the Northen Tip of Borneo, where the South China Sea and Sulu Sea meet. Walk along the pristine white beaches, collect seashells, and take in the breathtaking views of this famous landmark. This scenic spot has gained widespread recognition, even gracing the cover of the 2003 book edition titled Kudat. Complete your Borneo adventure by standing at the very tip of the island before heading back to Kota Kinabalu, with a lunch stop at a local restaurant along the way.
